Functional Conservatory Blinds

If you are one of those lucky people who happen to have a conservatory, then you will most likely want to enjoy it all year round – after all, what is the point of having one if you cannot make full use of it throughout the year? However, as you may have found, if you live in a place that gets really hot in the summer and really cold in the winter, the glass windows will either make your place a roasting oven in the summer or a walk in freezer in the winter, leaving you only about half the year to fully enjoy your beautiful conservatory.
So, it goes without saying that you will have to do something about those windows in order to enjoy your conservatory year round. There are various options: some people put in fans or an air con for the summer, and a heater for the winter, however the downside to using these alone is that it will take a lot, and I mean a lot, of electricity to run an air con or a heater long enough to either heat or cool down your conservatory. Unless you have limitless cash, you will likely want to think of some other options:
One not too expensive option to help you to either keep your conservatory warm enough or cool it down enough, is conservatory blinds. While these will not make your conservatory totally cool in the summer and you may still need to run that air con, at least having the conservatory blinds drawn down while you are not in the room will help to keep the room somewhat cooler, meaning you will not have to run your air con as long (and therefore pay a higher air con bill). Another point to consider is that the sun shining on furniture will make the fabric fade and you most likely do not want faded furniture – it just does not look nice. Having blinds up in your conservatory will keep your furniture from feeling the effects of too much sunlight.
Just for Decoration?
Perhaps the area you live in does not get boiling hot for the summer or freezing cold for the winter, however, conservatory blinds are classy and artistic and sure to add to the décor of any room, the conservatory included. There are a wide range of styles of blinds and they are made from all kinds of different material. As long as you are sure to pick a color that color coordinates well with whatever furniture and decor you already have in the conservatory, you really cannot go wrong with putting up blinds. No matter whether you want a more elegant and formal look in the conservatory, or a more modern look, you can find conservatory blinds in any style you want nowadays. They are also easy to keep clean and care for, which makes it easier to have a nice looking conservatory
Options for Conservatory Blinds
You can buy blinds in all different types of material, as I mentioned above. There are blinds made out of different kinds of wood, which is usually stained as opposed to being painted, giving the wood a nice natural, classy look, there are bamboo blinds, and polyester blinds, and blinds made out of different types of material. Naturally, the type of material you choose, as well as the brand name and style, and of course the size of your conservatory windows, will all affect how much the conservatory blinds will cost, so you will for sure want to find something that suits your tastes and already existing furniture, that is also within your budget.
Roller blinds are the cheapest kinds of blinds, which is perhaps why they are also the most common. As the name implies, these blinds roll up and down as you pull on a cord that is attached to the blinds. Besides being cheap, they are also very easy to install, in fact, you can even install them yourself, saving you the extra expense of having to get someone to do it for you. You simply measure your windows, go to a shop and purchase your roller blinds (or order them online via an online company that sell them) and put them up and it is done! They do blow about in the breeze when opened but then again, all of the blinds do that to some degree.
Roman blinds are a style of blinds that pull up when the cord is
pulled. They are quite artistic looking and come in a wide range of
styles, from European and Mediterranean to the more modern looking; if
you get Roman blinds you will have no problem finding something that
will suit your tastes, although you should take note that if you get
the heavier wooden roman blinds, or the bamboo ones, they do make a
fair bit of noise if they are up an the windows are opened as they sway
back and forth against the glass. So if you feel this is something that
would bother you, the polyester fabric roman blinds might be more up
your alley.
Pleated Blinds are the most popular of blinds; they
are quite beautiful and will most likely look lovely in your
conservatory, however you should note that they are also the most
expensive, so depending on who big your windows are and how big your
budget it, you may or may not want to put them up in your whole
conservatory. Pleated blinds fold up and down, sort of like a fan;
whether up or down they look quite lovely.
Believe it or not
it is possible to put up more than one style of blinds in your
conservatory, which means that perhaps, for example, you could put up
some lovely pleated blinds in one area of the conservatory and a less
expensive style of conservatory blinds for the other windows or for the
roof. If you do this, be sure that all the blinds are exactly the same
color – while using different styles of blinds will not ruin the look
of your conservatory, getting different colors of conservatory blinds
most surely will.

I would really like to have a conservatory. I'll keep Roman blinds in mind for the day that I have a conservatory. Thanks for the Hub! :)
I think I'd go with the Roman blinds should I ever be so lucky to have a conservatory. They seem to me to be far more utile and attractive.

Roman blinds do look great in a conservatory too, and they don't blow around as much as regular roller blinds do. Roller blinds really billow out a bit if there's much of a breeze.
